The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Thursday, said it had hired auditors to investigate allegations of fraud running into several millions of naira against its suspended chairman, Mr. Soji Adagunodo.
Addressing newsmen at the party’s office in Osogbo, the PDP acting Chairman, Mr Sunday Akanfe, explained that the party was forced to launch a probe into the tenure of Adagunodo, following his refusal to handover the party’s property in his care after his suspension.
He expressed hope that the probe would put an end to financial indiscipline and impunity in the party.
He urged members of the public not to misconstrue his action as “an existence of crisis in the party.”
Akande said, “What we are dealing with is the issue of transparency, probity, discipline and accountability.
“A reputable firm of auditors and financial investigators was engaged, and it was discovered by the auditors that an amount of money running into hundreds of millions of naira could not be accounted for.
“There were no vouchers, no receipts, no budget and most especially, no resolution of the state working committee to back up those financial dealings.
“We have written to the suspended chairman. This probe is apart from the findings of the initial investigative panel on the petitions earlier written by some members of our party.
“The petitions had been acted upon by the National Working Committee on the basis of which he (Adagunodo) was asked to step aside.”
Meanwhile, the party has inaugurated a 15-man committee headed by a former state Chairman of the party, Dr Bayo Faforiji, to interface with members on the issue of local government election.
