Ede Poly Rector Under Fire Over Alleged Abuse Of Power, Corrupt Practices

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr John Taiwo Adekolawole has been accused of violating the extant rule and order of the institution since the inception of his administration in 2017.

Some workers in the institution claimed Adekolawole has been enmeshed in other allegations such as abuse of power, nepotism, suppression of dissenting voices and flagrant violation of rule of law of the school.

Among the alleged unlawful practices of the rector is the unilateral promotions of his wife, Mrs Olukeni Adekolawole, a staff member of the institution, without consulting relevant body for scrutiny.

AMILOADED investigation revealed that Mrs Adekolawole was in December, 2017, promoted from CONTEDISS 7 to CONTEDISS 9 and back dated it to January 2017, while the financial benefit started from January 2018.

But before this time, AMILOADED gathered that Mrs Adekolawole was said not to have been qualified for promotion by the school’s committee.

The Junior Staff  Appointment and Promotion Committee of the institution, after consulting her file in July 2017 and resolved that Mrs Adekolawole did not meet qualifications for promotion.

The Rector was said to have disregarded the position of the committee and tripled her wife’s promotion.

Speaking, the chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic, Ede chapter, Mr. A. Masopa accused the Rector of flouting the institution’s rule and being nepotistic in the discharge of his duties.

Masopa said, “since the Rector took over, it as been a tenure of indiscriminate issuance of queries, lopsided appointments, nepotism, disobedience to extant rule and others.”

Some other staff members of the institution who did not want to be named accused the Rector of highhandedness.

They said Mrs Adekolawole’s promotions are illegal since she had not added any qualification as of the time she was promoted.

But the Rector, while reacting, said his wife was promoted accordingly.

He claimed that she was even due for another promotion adding that “my wife was duly promoted. She is now a chartered accountant and she is even on level eleven. We are going to do next upgrading, those with ICAN will be promoted.”

Meanwhile, this development is already brewing crisis within the management and staff of the institution as some have been calling for the Rector’s probe.
