Olowu Urges Sanusi To Pursue Reformation Of Traditional Institution

Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Highness, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosin 2, has asked the deposed Emir of Kano, Mohammed Lamido Sanusi ii to ensure the reformation of the traditional institution in the country.

Hailing the judiciary and Federal Government for allowing the rule of law to prevail and the eventual freedom of Sanusi from where he was banished in Awe, Nasarawa state, Olowu tasked Sanusi to regain his lost glory through reformation of traditional institution.

Olowu in a statement issued by his Media Office In Kuta, Osun State also thanked the federal government for the way they obeyed the court order that freed Sanusi from banishment, adding that it shows the adherence to rule of law by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

His words, “ I want to identify with Mohammed Sanusi II for his freedom which was made possible by the democratic dispensation. I also want him, now, having been in and out of palace and knows where the shoe pinches for the traditional rulers take up the challenge of how to reform the traditional institution.

“He should not be swayed by those inviting him to partisan politics, his focus now should be how to reform the traditional institution in Nigeria in conjunction with stakeholders among concern genuine monarchs with the view to reposition it. I think we need to enact a legislation that will insulate the traditional rulers from politics so that they can play the role of fathers to all, that destiny has placed on them and Colonial Chiefs law need total amendments or outright Review.

“Going down the memory lane, Olowu said the idea of dethronement started from the colonial masters, but instead to stop, it continues in the old western region led by  late Awolowo and also reverberated in the north through the then Premier, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello.”

The monarch said “unless we address the issue and place our traditional rulers to their rightful position, some may abdicate their responsibility in the face of daunting task that may make their continued Obaship a ruse.”

He, however, said Sanusi should also explore the window offers by the constitution review by the 9th assembly to submit memoranda to be considered for the needed amendments on the traditional institution in order to regain its lost.

“I condemn in the strongest terms any groups or individuals reading ulterior motives to deposed Emir Sanusi’s choice of Lagos. The Southwest has always been known for its accommodating nature of of class of people irrespective of tribal or religious beliefs, the ex-Emir should feel at home in the Southwest and enjoy a peaceful coexistence with us,” Oba Oyelude said.
