Osun Assembly To Sanitize Structure For Efficiency, Productivity in Governance

Osun State House of Assembly said, it would sanitize its structures to serve as example for efficiency, productivity and transprency in governance.

Speaker of the Assembly, Honourable Timothy Owoeye stated this on Tuesday at the opening of a 3-Day Legislative Retreat for members of house, themed, ‘Enhancing Service Delivery Through Effective Legislative Engagement” at the Royal Park Hotel, Iloko Ijesa.

He said the Assembly would not allow anyone to detract it from its bare aspiration of redoubling the efforts of making the state a development haven.

According to him, the agenda of the Assembly which includes, quality legislation, effective oversight, transparent and democratic Assembly, e-parliament, active citizens and public engagement and restoring public confidence in the state legislature would form the guiding principles of the Assembly.

He said, “Our people look up to the House of Assembly for direction and to provide opportunities for them. It has become quite apparent to us that it is no longer business as usual.

“At no time in our history has the need for synergy of purpose and drive to embrace and give full effect to this obligation been more acute than now.

“We have a task to work and build a new House of Assembly that is respected at home and recognised nationally both as an example for efficiency, productivity, and transprency.

“This is the minimum we aspire. We are not going to allow anyone to detract from this bare aspiration and we will be demanding that we stay on this course for the remainder of our term”, the speaker stressed.

In his keynote address, the Governor, Gboyega Oyetola said, his administration requires executive bills from the house to effectively execute development and other tasks at hand and ahead.

Noting that the cooperation of the parliament is required, he said, all decisions must be taken in the overall interest of the people.

“The parliament must faithfully deliver service to the people that gave it power in trust, conduct its duty in a manner that enhances and protects the sanctity and dignity of the house and sustainably contribute to the development profile of the state.

“There is a need for the Assembly to design a road map that will guide and drive its vision and programmes, complete with institutional and personal Performance Charter”, the governor stressed.
